Review Time - When Opposites Meet by Sachin Garg

When Opposites Meet is a brilliantly packaged work. From the inception of the story, the characters' motifs are set, and he paints about a good picture for them. A one word summary of the story would be: Magnets. Like the north and south poles, here are three couples so different in characteristics and mannerisms perfectly complementing each other. While in one set, there is a physically challenged girl with a beautiful mind called Ritwika completes the physically macho yet not so brilliant athlete Chetan, the other odd couple is Ritwka's mother, Indu and her professor Lokesh. This pair is equally odd, but not on a physical note, but on an emotional level. While Indu is extroverted and quite philanthropic by nature, Lokesh is a man of few words. The oddest yet cutest couple is Aditi and Jayant. The same introvert-extrovert context has been handled quite differently when it came to this couple.

Basically, this story revolves round six very different people and their romantic journey. This type of story is definitely not new to literature, yet, the way of handling the subject was quite coherent and it is apparent that the author has conveyed whatever he wanted to in an abstract, non-complex manner.

The author has really set a tone and painted his characters quite beautifully that even when they do something awkward (such as swallowing a coin as a whole), since the characters have been well-established, it doesn't seem so. The author has cleverly kept his character-count low and set the story in a minimal spectrum of area so it keeps us engaged and the imaginative curve was quite lucid.

The characters' goals are set and they all have a clear mindset as to what they want and it has been clearly demarcated by the author.

As for the negatives, if I really need to say so, the impact that it creates while reading the last line doesn't carry over after the book has been put away. I felt the characters and the story quite vividly, yet, some emotional connect was missing.

On the whole, a feel-good story with a grand narrative and simple language.
